Food & Farm Revolution

Foreword by Andy Cato

Description

Description

Climate change, biodiversity loss and soil degradation are three interlinked crises that threaten our very existence – and they all converge in agriculture. It’s clear, the way we produce food and farm must change.

When Benedikt Bösel took over his family’s 3,000-hectare farm and forest estate in Brandenburg, Germany, he set out to prove that regenerative, multifunctional land use isn’t just possible – it’s essential. Through a bold mix of forestry, research, cows and compost, agroforestry and agriculture, he and his team are working to restore broken nutrient cycles, build climate resilience and reimagine how we use the land.

Driven by curiosity and courage, Benedikt built a team of talented, energetic and innovative doers, in order to explore whats possible in one of Germanys driest areas. Along the way, he drew inspiration from both pioneering innovators and time-honoured traditions that all shared the same truth: it all begins with soil.

Food & Farm Revolution is the inspiring story of that journey – a call to action for anyone concerned about the future of food, farming, and our planet.

Author

Benedikt Bösel is an agricultural economist and the founder and managing director of Gut&Bösel, a regenerative farm located near Berlin. Alongside managing organic agriculture and forestry operations, he established the Finck Foundation in 2021 with the mission to explore and advance multifunctional land use systems – such as agroforestry, holistic grazing and syntropic agriculture.

Under his leadership, the estate has become a living laboratory for innovation, offering testing grounds for agricultural startups and research projects focused on data collection, new technologies and software development.

Benedikt is a firm believer that regenerative, multifunctional land use holds the key to addressing some of the most urgent challenges of our time – from climate change and biodiversity loss to food security, social equity and public health.

Benedikt features in the six-part Disney+ series Farm Rebellion.

The book is a superb practical example of agroforestry and regenerative farming and one that needs to be followed much more widely if we are to preserve soil and food production as the climate crisis deepens.
